A friend of mine put on facebook this week a quote which he attributed to Athanasius: "That which is not assumed is not saved." I remember reading this quote during my time at college and it is incredibly apt as we remember the coming of the God-Man Jesus Christ into human history. It fits perfectly with what is perhaps my favourite verse of any Christmas carol:
Christ by highest heaven adored, Christ the everlasting Lord. Late in time behold him come, Offspring of a virgin's womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail the incarnate deity. Pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hark! The herald angels sing, "Glory to the new born King!"
