It's a beautiful day in Glasgow! I am sat in the library! Motivation is needed!
I am starting work on an assignment on Philemon. I really enjoy these pieces of work but am struggling a bit at the moment. It is not a bad struggle but one which a few months ago I would have been glad of. Basically having plumbed the depths earlier in the year I am very much enjoying feeling much better and want to use this re-found enjoyment of life in some really practical ways.
One of the challenges I face is to keep in mind the absolute essential nature of this time of study. As a practically minded person with an idea (and pushing doors to discern more) of where it is that God is calling me to, I want to be out there 'doing it'. At times like this I draw on my experience in professional sport. I would never have thought about taking the pitch without adequate training and conditioning, ministry is the same. This time of study (and the years ahead) are essential for ministry, wherever it ends up being. But that doesn't stop there being afternoons like this one when I really can't wait for the day when I get a run out, and that is motivation enough...back to the books!
There's a great lesson there for youth leaders... leaders of any kind, in fact. Thanks for sharing!
